Just wanted to let the assassin community know the latest news on FtD. I posted about this issue to the assassin forum on testlive.

To sum it up, FtD while stealthed works fine and as it used to. But while unstealthed FtD does not work.
I get the feeling this is not a bug but I have asked the question on TestLive.

When is FunCom actually going to work on the Assassin class?

Since launch we have recieved a steady round of nerfs and our few buff (/cough deathwhirlwind) are a joke  So how about we knock all this crap off, give us tracking, give us reasonable hide abilities, give all weapons the same range and give us some more natural evade do to the fact that you put us in CLOTH with 3.5k hp.

I know people say "oh assassin is just fine" well that would be because we have gems, thank god. There is a reason there aren't a ton of Assassin's out there and its because 2 months ago this class was garbage. If your going to nerf gems thats fine, but don't leave Assassin's out to dry and put out this new PvP patch.

Maybe FtD was always supposed to work only from stealth all along....seems silly for an assassin to have a charge for a start so maybe making it usable only from "hide" keeps it more in character...it is called from the DARKNESS after all

On i side note...we wouldnt need a charge if we had a "hide" ability which worked to suit our class better...ie if we are in total darkness as shown by that black triangle then we cant be popped from stealth no matter how good a players search skill....that would rock

I've had a problem with ftd lately too. I've been getting used to popping out of stealth and then using FTD. But a couple times has happened where I'd do one of the original bugs and I'd fly like 15-20m away from the guy I was hitting. So, by the time I actually get to him, the stun is off and that was a total waste.

I agree that according to the description FtD should work only from stealth.

If you guys really want to get some attention on this, make a new thread; label it 'Discussion: FtD change' or something but be sure to include Discussion, and list out the pros and cons for reverting FtD back to the way it was. And no /signed crap, devs want to read coherent reasons from different people as to why it should be changed. And no flames lol.

The pvp policy already says that GMs will step in if there isn't a pvp solution to a problem. As for realism, the fact that you can magically come back to life kind of ruins any kind of "realism" argument.

I think people are just not seeing that there is a difference between pk'ing someone and ruining their day and preventing someone from playing by continuously killing someone at the spawn.


So why not do a short term prison system then. Say 15min of paraded around the town being ridiculed, then put in a 'dunk tank' scenerio where people can stand in a crowd and throw tomatoes and stuff at you. 15 min later you get beheaded or something and respawn.

It helps spawn camping to a degree. Ok so the griefer can get his 5 cheap kills or whatever, then he'll move on because he doesn't want to spend 10 minutes or whatever in prison.

I agree with you in that I don't want carebear servers either. If you're walking by and see some guy from a rival guild who's just come off a spawn point, why shouldn't you be able to kill him? Just don't sit there for an hour doing so and make it your only reason to play AoC.

That's why I like the prison system. If done correctly, the hardcore players won't even know it exists, because it will only affect spawn campers or people that stalk near a spawn point to kill the same lowbie over and over. Hardcore players don't do that, and they won't be affected by the prison system.

Yes, the prison system would reduce the amount of people spawn camping. But the cost to real, quality pvp and open encounters is huge. What I'm saying is, if you had say, 30 seconds where you wouldn't get ganked from the time you spawn, wouldn't that be enough time to get far enough away, or change instances? I mean, if you're spawning, then going back to do your same old quest 20 meters away from the spawn point, you're asking to get ganked. And in my opinion, there's nothing wrong with killing people if they have a chance to get away/avoid it/fight back.

I never mentioned spawn campers. I agree spawn campers are a piss in the pot, until the fix the rez immunity buff. I'm thinking of the "oh no I had 3 mobs on me and you killed me" or the "wtf is was afk stuffing chessy poofs down my fat gullet" carebears.

+1 for a prison/punishment system.

If you are willing to kill a lowbie to stir the pot you should be willing to take the penalty. That is the price you pay. They have not said much about how it is going to be implemented but i am fairly confident that you are not going to get punished right when it happens, but probably when you are killed. So, you still have plenty of opportunity of killing all you see, until you die.

The way i see it this will be fun, you kill lots of people, you become a criminal. Now you can keep killing whomever you want, but now you have to know that people are coming after you, and when you die you are spawning in prison.

Everyone you killed wants to put you in prison and will do whatever it takes to try and kill you.

You do not want to be in prison so you will do whatever it takes to stay alive.

I see hours of enjoyment of opposing guilds killing killing each others armies trying to send the other half to hell for their punishment.

Okay, what you're describing sounds more like a criminal style system. For example, in UO where you could do whatever you wanted, but you'd get flagged as a criminal, then if you killed a bunch of people you'd get flagged as a murderer. This system is pretty effective (and interesting) but you have to have a game designed for it. AOC atm isn't, due to the fact that the guards are seriously gimped, and that there is no talk of this whatsoever.

And big guild battles probably just wouldn't happen, because ******* griefing guild Z would bring a bunch of lowbies that would get AOE'd and cause the other guild to get sent to prison. Most likely the griefers would just start trying to get people sent to prison.

I don't think they have said what the punishment would be, but I would be interested to find out.

I think you should be more afraid of this totally open PvP ruining PvP. I just worry about what is going to happen when more and more people start caping and get bored. Anyone trying to level after that is going to be screwed.

Again, yet another post without reading the facts.
Read FunCom's proposed fugitive system, and then make a statement.
A guild could go in and kill everything in sight, they will gain "murder points" for every lowbie they kill, and lose "murder points" for everyone they kill within their level. They will not be sent off to some "prison", be given a timeout, or otherwise have their birthday taken away.
They allow for a more natural resolution. Which is simply this. You kill nothing but lowbies you get "marked", anyone killing said "marked" player will get a pvp xp bump, and NO murder points (if they are not within level range).
This brings a "risk" to griefing, or res camping, but does not stop it all together. This leaves the world flexible for natural pvp, but gives a risk/reward for being a jerk and/or killing said jerk. lol

So far every time people get to QQ on the forums yall go an nerf some stuff an fuk up the game instead of fixing the stuff that needs to be fix.Dont get me wrong i love the game but it seems like your focus is on the wrong things.First of all the main thing that needed to be nerf was the stupid guard charge one shotting people,but yall didnt even do that failcom.Know one likes to just get 1 shoted everytime you see a guard running towards you it takes the fun out of the game.Second did u ever stop to think if your gonna have classes doing combos that hit for 2k+ that you would of gave more classes higher HP it would solve alot of your pvp problems instead of nerfing **** every patch.In every mmo ive played players dont wanna hit for less they wanna hit harder so plz dont nerf the gems give all the classes more HP an nerf the guard charge plz. It will make the game more fun if pvp battles last a little longer an some classes wont feel useless in pvp when they can barely get a spell off before there dead.

hate to say this but people complaining like the OP about things in game and using the word nerf are fools.

at no point are you supposed to have anything in game. they make the rules and obviously your a fool, they see they have an error in the game mechanics and have to correct it.

have they made wise choices no, have they actually addressed stability issues no, have they added in this item database they bragged about for weeks no, have they add in upper level content for raids no. have they actually started wasting dev time on an expansion yes.

Those are the things that you need to be complaining about, not what you perceived as a god given stat. idiots.

I understand that. What I am saying is that this is the first MMO I have played (played many) where it was necessary to "organize" specific days and times to go PvP. Typically, people go PvP without being prodded to go do it because they like to PvP.

/ooc isnt always filled with talk about lack of PvP but I notice it enough to warrant the observation that there are 3 zones to go do it in that are empty non-stop. There are guilds or members of guilds that post about lack of PvP. Same thing.

I am not disagreeing with you and I understand the frustration from your perspective and anyone elses who has tried to "organize" open world PvP. In fact, I appluad you and anyone else that has done so.

My point is, why is that even necessary. That IT IS necessary at this point is not in question.

Unless we are talking about seiging (I'm not) imo there is no organization necessary. None. Whatsoever.

Whatever internal organization for group make up, feat spec, assist trains, or what not is all interal from one guild to the next. Some guilds will take steps like this and some wont. They'll take what they have and zone in.

What I am saying is what organization is necessary for folks to "clicky" the door and zone into one "Border Kingdom" or another. All you have to do is grab some people and zone in. THE MORE THE BETTER. Its the fact that no one is doing that that is the problem.

People piss and moan about no PvP. Gems, you name it. I somewhat understand the issues revolving around seiging ans balance but only from the observer's perspective based on all the feedback on these boards. Broken "X", exploitable "Y", impossible "Z", etc.

I understand many are waiting for the "PvP Patch." If you are still logging in (I understand many are not but many STILL ARE) what are you doing? Running Aztel for the 100th time? Banging on Basalt rocks 24/7? Alts? There is no time for nothing else?

I'm not talking about seiging myself. I'm talking about the fact that while there are still plenty of "bored" level 80's (and any other level player for that matter) that claims they want to PvP, they never go into the zones to do it! How can you experience open world PvP if the zones to do it in are empty 24/7?!?

I dont care about terrain or rez point issues or whatever else exist. We can bitch about that stuff WHILE WE ARE PVP'ing.

FC is not ENTIRELY responsible for the complete lack of PvP. I am NOT implying anything. Like pretty much everyone I'm fairly disgusted. They are certainly not giving anyone any incentives, a lot of work needs done, most things are not as we thought they would be much less how they told for years leading up to launch.......

BUT all you guilds informing everyone that you're sticking around, advertising guild PvP as incentive to "merge" and be "absorbed", blah, etc, where are yal at really? Raiding non stop? Farming Epic Kesh? What? Arent there lockout timers anyway?

We'll be the first to admit we're a small guild in the hurt locker due to retention issues created by lack of content, lack of PvP, technical issues, you name it. But, we're still here. We want to PvP. I'd rather go out and get zerged than not PvP AT ALL.


   RAM question from a guy who knows nada about computers

I got my desktop a couple years ago (in order to play Oblivion and NWN2) and it's only got 1 gb of ram. I've been able to play AoC with minimized settings (my FPS isn't great, but it's playable) but I'm only able to play for short intervals before it crashes, usually anywhere from 5-45 minutes. The most common crash is an error message that pops up saying I'm out of diskspace (which I'm not; I've got 120 gbs free on my hard drive). I've read a lot of threads about people with plenty of RAM who still experience plenty of crashes, and I'm wondering if it's worth investing the eighty bucks to upgrade my RAM. Also, I found a couple guides on how to install ram upgrades yourself - is it safe for a guy who knows nothing about computers to do that, or should I just pay the installation fee?
Have no fear ... Ram is just a "stick" you push into the mobo. I say stick .. it is a small maybe 1" x 5" card that you place into your motherboard right near where your other RAM is in place. MAKE sure you get the same type of RAM that is in your PC atm, or you will find bigger issues. You can find the current type of ram you have on the actual ram card/stick or better yet take it to your local (name of computer store) and ask them what kind it is.

Will it help .. Ohh my heck yes your will actually see a BIG differance.

Your system would have come with a manual (or mobo manual) showing you how to install memory into the motherboard. There are different types of memory available on the market, so it really depends on the motherboard you have. For example:
  • DDR
  • DDR2
  • DDR3
  • RAMBUS

Are just some examples of what you need to look for. If you are really unsure, you can open up the side of your case, and on the motherboard there should be a model number like (P5N-E) or (M2N-E) something like that, might not be exact, and you can look up the supported memory online.

Alternatively you can do as the above guy suggested and pull the stick outta the system, take it down and ask (note before you do this to count how many slots you have that look just like this module) As a safe rule of thumb don't go over a 1GB stick, and plan on spending around $100 (won't cost you that much, but really depends on the type of memory and your local availability)

For DDR2 667MHz memory 1GB module should cost you around $25 - DDR memory, older memory, costs slightly more (about 10$ more) and DDR3 is generally more, but depends on what your getting.

Ask for valueRam if your concerned about price, but if you want to get a feel for what they have to offer, just ask the sales guy what you can get at different price ranges (kingston vs crucial vs etc)

You're not gonna play the game flawless with that system, but find out the highest speed RAM your motherboard can handle, and get 4GB of that at Newegg.com. Also, enable the /3GB switch for XP, google "XP /3GB switch".

Next, set graphics to High (i know it sounds wrong, just do it)then use shader version 2.0, turn off shadows, water, and grass in the in-game options and set ALL sliders to 1/2 default. That may help.

You really need a new rig though. You have an E-Machine and is not made for the "new" games out right now.
Is my computer really that lacking? I'm a casual gamer, and I don't mind playing with the graphics all minimalized; I just mind the constant crashing and frequent FPS/latency stuttering. Will 4 gigs of new RAM help with that? Or is my pc mostly hopeless for AoC? I'm just worried about spending money on something that might not work (I'm pretty broke).
